Every year, on the anniversary of Florence Nightingale’s birth, the world celebrates International Nurses Day in honor of the indispensible work of nurses all around the world.

Sub-Saharan Africa faces a huge shortage of qualified healthcare staff. According to the WHO’s 2015 World Health Statistics, the African region has only 12.4 nurses for every 10,000 people.

Especially in rural areas in Africa, many clinics struggle to find doctors willing to work there. As a result, many clinics are nurse-driven. At the clinics working with SafeCare to improve their quality of care, almost 20,000 nurses work hard every day to provide essential care to the patients in their facility. Every month, they make a difference in the lives of 1,740,445 patients.
