Our 2025 Progress Report is available

Every year, millions of people across sub-Saharan Africa cannot get the healthcare they need. Not because the care doesn't exist, but because of how health systems are organised and financed.

That is the problem PharmAccess has been working on for 25 years.

In 2025, we did it in the middle of an earthquake. A changing political climate led to the dramatic reduction, and in some cases disappearance, of bilateral funding across the NGO sector. PharmAccess was not spared. It forced us into difficult decisions to downsize and reshape ourselves into a more resilient organisation.

And yet, our teams kept delivering. More than 45 million people connected to health insurance through our programmes. Over 16 million patients reached through quality-assessed facilities across 27 countries. A record 1,754 loans disbursed to healthcare providers across sub-Saharan Africa. And we created living labs to test care models built on data and AI sovereignty.

Our approach is inherently agile: we pilot, test, and iterate, and this report shares not only the results of what we scaled, but also the learnings and sometimes unexpected outcomes that emerged along the way — insights that continuously sharpen our models and benefit the wider health ecosystem

Running through everything is a question we believe matters well beyond our own programmes: who controls health data, and who benefits from it? In 2025, we took the first concrete steps toward an answer, building Africa’s first patient-controlled health data cooperative, where individuals hold their own health records and decide how they are used.

None of this would be possible without our partners. Thank you for your continued trust and support.
