The new facility is specialized in care of patients with serious chronic conditions such as HIV/AIDS, diabetes, hypertension and tuberculosis. The first phase expansion of this new complex was inaugurated on Wednesday January 16 by his Excellency Jakaya Mrisho Kikwete, President of Tanzania. The President stressed to the media present, the importance of cooperation between the government and the private sector to improve public service provision. He stated: “This is a good example of a public-private partnership and with such cooperation between private and public sectors, the burden will be much easier to the government.”

The construction
In 2007 Dr. Kaushik Ramaiya, CEO of Shree Hindu Mandal and specialist in internal medicine, had the honour to be awarded 700,000 Euro by the Dutch Aids Fonds and the AmsterdamDiner, during their annual fundraising event. The award was granted in honour of Sri Hindu Mandal’s leading role in AIDS treatment from the very beginning that AIDS treatment was available in Tanzania.

Shree Hindu Mandal hospital received the necessary funding to complete the first two layers of the new building through PharmAccess. In its efforts to improve quality of health services PharmAccess supports more than 60 private clinics through its Medical Credit Fund, in collaboration with the Association of Private Health Facilities in Tanzania (APHFTA).

The construction of the ground and first floor started in 2008. Construction of the second floor was sponsored by Mr. Mustafa Jaffer Sabodo, prominent businessman and philanthropist, bringing the completion of the new hospital complex to its current status: a well designed and appropriate facility meeting the ever increasing demand for quality care of patients, as can be daily observed in the spacious waiting areas filled by the ever increasing number of patients.

The hospital is honoured that the opening is done by the President of United Republic of Tanzania. It marks a new phase in the history of one of the oldest accessible and most reputable private health facilities in Dar es Salaam.
