The rollout of the Social Health Authority, the expansion of Universal Health Coverage, and rapid digitization are collectively laying the groundwork for a health system that is more transparent, more accountable, and genuinely centered on people. One that asks not just how many patients were seen, but whether their health actually improved.
This shift doesn’t happen on its own. It requires people — across sectors, across institutions — who are willing to work differently, learn from one another, and stay committed to a shared purpose.
A community built on shared purpose
Three years ago, PharmAccess, Infospective Research, and Leapfrog to Value began coordinating a Community of Practice rooted in exactly that belief. Today, it brings together patient advocates, providers, payers, and innovators from over 30 institutions across Kenya — learning from one another, confronting real challenges, and documenting the journey as they go.
Early results are encouraging. Initiatives like MomCare, Lea Mama, Jacaranda Health’s PROMPTS, and SafeMamaTech are already showing that quality care, better outcomes, and sustainable financing can go hand in hand, particularly in maternal and neonatal health.
A first milestone
On 11 March, the Kenya Healthcare Federation announced it will host the Community of Practice — and this week, it officially launches. More than an organizational decision, it signals a cross-sector commitment to reshape how healthcare works, not just for those who deliver it, but for the people who depend on it.
Together with our partners, we are proud to have helped catalyze this journey. It is a step toward a future where the system doesn’t just deliver more care, but better care. Care that people can trust. Care that improves lives. Care that puts value at its core.
