Ebola: PharmAccess launches SafeCare4Outbreaks

Most healthcare facilities are not prepared for an outbreak. SafeCare4Outbreaks helps them get there in minutes. The Bundibugyo Ebola epidemic makes this more urgent than ever.

  • Jun 09, 2026

The WHO has declared the Ebola disease caused by Bundibugyo virus in DRC and Uganda a Public Health Emergency of International Concern. To support healthcare providers in affected and at-risk areas, PharmAccess has launched SafeCare4Outbreaks, a digital self-assessment tool that helps facilities assess their epidemic preparedness without needing external support.

The tool covers the areas that matter most in an outbreak: whether protective equipment is stocked and procurement protocols are in place, whether staff know what to do, whether the facility can isolate patients and triage at entry points, and whether response plans exist and are ready to activate. Facilities register, complete the structured self-assessment, and receive an instant score with concrete recommendations for closing gaps.

Within 30 minutes, facilities receive a free quality improvement plan for their epidemic preparedness. Partners get access to a dashboard benchmarking facility readiness across their network.

SafeCare4Outbreaks draws on our experience deploying our Quality Improvement programme SafeCare across 1,000+ facilities during COVID-19. It is available free of charge.
