PharmAccess accredited as Regional Non-State Actor by WHO AFRO

PharmAccess has been accredited as a regional non-State actor by the World Health Organization Regional Office for Africa (WHO AFRO). This enables us to participate in sessions of the WHO Regional Committee for Africa, working alongside African governments, regional health bodies and other accredited organizations.

  • Oct 01, 2025

The Regional Committee is the World Health Organization decision-making body in the region, convening once a year to shape policies, activities and financial plans to improve health in Africa.

In the African Region, WHO works closely with non-State actors to implement its policies. This accreditation offers our organization a formal voice to contribute insights from over 20 years of experience in social health insurance, quality of care, healthcare investments and public-private partnerships.

What does this mean for PharmAccess?

• Advocate directly during sessions of the WHO Regional Committee for Africa.
• Share results and lessons from our digital and data-driven health innovations to help WHO and Member States deliver greater patient impact with scarce financial resources and shape regional health policy.
Strengthen partnerships to scale digital and data-driven health innovations.

Why does it matter?

This milestone reinforces our commitment to strengthening health systems in Africa and aligns with WHO’s vision for equitable Universal Health Coverage. Regional engagement enables us to drive change beyond national borders. This is crucial for current key topics such as health data governance, which demand coordinated action and must be addressed at both national and regional levels – areas where we are now well-positioned to influence policy and practice.
